Go girls! Great job in setting a big goal but working on mini goals towards that each week. I'm behind you all the way!
That's really cool that you guys are doing this. I'm envious that you have friends to help you through this. I just have my hubby to work out with and half the time I don't even feel like going to the gym. I wish you and your friends the very best in your goals for 2009! :)
Hello from Ottawa, Canada. Thank you girls for doing this. I am feeling probably the worst I have felt in awhile. The holidays did me in...I over ate and haven't seen a gym in weeks. I have been thinking of re-joining Weight Watchers, but I have been putting it off. You have given me the inspiration I need. Thank you for sharing your journey, because I know it will help me stick with mine!
I LOVE this - CONGRATULATIONS on your journey!
I am doing this also.....so I can run with the Olympic Torch next January (2010) when it comes thru our town!!!
Kristina, That is so inspiring. Well done!!! (I'm already a subscriber :)) I wish you and your friend lots of luck in reaching your goals - one week at a time.
You go girls!! Good luck and keep at it...Take baby steps. From someone that was "FAT" not Phat, I have 3 tips that helped me lose lots of kilo's, and keep it off :)
1. Drink water, lots of water (Kristina you have nailed this one!)
2. Walk, walk lots, and then walk more.
3. Dont eat after 7/8ish at night(this is the trick!)
Cheers

What an inspiration! You are so awesome Kristina!
What a great idea; making it public helps with goal achievement as does working together with friends. Nothing more important than taking care of your health.
I too am working towards a healthier me. If I could give you ladies some advice and info this would be it:
1. eat protein...have two eggs for breaky rather than a non fat no butter/no cream cheese bagel (a personal trainer turned me on to this one and I didn't believe it till I tried it and it worked.)
2. one pound is equal to 3500 calories. So if you can reduce your calorie intake and increase your output to a total of 500 calories per day you will lose one pound per week. Slow and steady wins the race!!!
All the best ladies and keep those beautiful cards coming. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to post a card to the challenge!
go girls!! i've got a few baby pounds left...and i'm on the war path as well!! thank you for sharing!!
I wish you luck girls!!! I am on the same way! I hope I can get rid of some pounds!
Bianca from Germany!
Best of luck to you and your phat friends!
A few years ago, I made a resolution to drink more water, but I fell off the bandwagon by the end of February.
Now that I am pregnant with my first child, I read how important fluid intake is for me/us, as well as for flushing out the amniotic fluid, etc. So, again, I hope to drink more.
Documenting goals is a great first step!
Not doing it alone is even better!
Best of luck to all of you ladies fighting the good fight! Kristina, thank you for sharing this as it's inspiring me.
i think this is great, and you have exponentially increased your chances of success by submitting to accountability within the group.
i started drinking 64 oz. of water a day 8 years ago, and the first month is the hardest. you'll be in the bathroom all the time until your body adjusts to that kind of intake! do not despair!
i also heard a theme of needing to cook for yourselves. that's hard--if you're cooking for 1. why not get together and cook a few meals that you can divide between you? then you can just pull something from the fridge or freezer after work and have a meal that's much more satisfying than something "quick". soup's a great one to portion, as is veggie lasagna, but you could make this work with just about any recipe! you're creative women, think creatively!
Awesome! I am in tears after watching that mostly because of the vulnerability each of you have and because I'm working on my health this year, too, and it's soooooooo hard.

Best of Luck on your Journey! I love your friend Jenn - she cracks me up!
I am in the same boat - trying to get healthier in 2009
I may create a journal for my journey!
One thing I did was eliminate carbs after 3 pm. NO CARBS - no sugar to burn - the body is forced to burn what is there - lots of protein!
And the water is a BIG thing - you are right - eating to eat is unhealthy - drink lots of water. Try water based soups prior to eating - lots of veggies....
Also - DH's friend told him that oatmeal, almonds and pineapples are the BEST breakfast - especially if you have a cholesterol problem -
Now I am rambling -
This is really great!!! Good luck to all of you! I am doing WW too, so I know what you'll be doing Kristina. It works really well for me - I just have to work on my own motivation of late. I've been doing it since before Thanksgiving - lost 6 lbs over Thanksgiving - and then these last two weeks have been really rough.
Tell Jen that it's been proven that if you can cut out soda (and sugary drinks) you will lose about 15 pounds in a year, JUST FROM THAT!! They also say that if you do drink it regularly you gain about 15 lbs a year from it. Eek!!
Anyway - good luck ladies and I look forward to seeing you all meet your goals!!
Good luck! You all are a bunch of cuties too!!!
Best Wishes for a good start to the new year. Thanks for inspiring many & encouraging one another. A "phat" sisterhood is awesome!
You brave, brave women!! ...going on tape with it all.
I just want to say...
Jen - you are a rockstar, we can tell!
Kristina - you can't have 50 lbs to lose, you're lovely; oh and the water does make the hugest difference for me too:)
All of you - all the best on your journey - focus on the health not the weight (which you seem to be doing) - tiny changes make a big difference - there's no point doing something you won't sustain because who wants to lose some lbs only to gain them back and have to lose them again - and as some of you mentioned, moderation is important - after all, brownies cannot totally be eliminated from life;)
PHABULOUS! I'm excited for each of you and will be doing my personal phit program right along with you. Let's do this girls!
Ditto, what everyone else said. Like Oprah, I've fallen off the wagon. 10 years ago I lost over 50lb with WW and kept right at goal for 8 years, but then it started to creeeep back up and now I am trying to get back there. So far, day 5! You all are amazing, this is so "fly on the wall" interesting, know you are not alone and we are all in it together! Love you!
Awesome!!!
All five of you are an inspiration.
What a great idea for the new 2009 year.
Love it.
I wish you & you friends all the luck.

Thanks for sharing these videos with us! I too have set 2009 as the year I try to get healthier. . .losing weight would be the added benefit, but I need to focus first on exercising and eating better. I hope to follow you on your journey and be on my own journey as well!
I think we ALL need to take better care of ourselves, and what better way to do it than with a supportive group of friends! You can encourage each other, and root for each other and celebrate with each other. I applaud each of you for starting this journey and will cheer for you, too! Good luck!
Way to go!
Wishing you all a fabulous year and extend that to others with the same goals and myself.
Have you gone back to WW? They have a new program now.
I managed to lose 35 last year but this year I need to push that to 50 more lbs.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
I am totally inspired! It is great to see REAL people taking on this challenge. Good luck!
Congrats on getting started! Kristina, I'm excited you are doing Weight Watchers. It is a good plan to follow and teaches you so much about how to make healthy changes! I joined back in August and have lost 27 lbs as of yesterday (1-8-09). It'll be fun to watch you shrink, and be sure to tell us how much fun you have when you get to go shopping and buy a smaller size! I was a 16 to start and this Christmas, I went shopping and bought a bunch of size 12 pants... it's a great feeling. Best wishes and know you have lots of supporters out there!
Kristina:
Wow, not only will I be able to see your lovely designs but your a fellow WL!
I've been battling this fight for years, documented here: http://dickundduenn.blogspot.com
and have decided this year is it. I'm doing it, once and for all!
Can't wait to cheer you guys on!
Congrats Kristina et al.!! As you start your journey, think of it as learning the tools for lifelong health. I lost 48 pounds eight years ago on WW and have kept it all off. I still eat the same way I learned how to 8 years ago (treats too!) and have kept exercising as well. It's just part of my lifestyle. Journal food intake, water, and exercise...another big help for me was weight lifting 2x a week. I find I can eat more with more muscle mass. Good luck ladies!!
You girls are so brave to get out there and document your goals, I'd be too scared that I would fail and everyone would know!
You said you want to drink more water and a little tip I used to find helped anytime i needed to drink more water I would buy a big 2L bottle of mineral water (which is approx 8 cooking cups, not sure what it would be in ounces) I would then refill it every day and leave it on my desk at work, after a while every time I would have to stop and think I would find myself drinking some water and it was a really good way to monitor how much water I actually drank, it wouldn't matter if i wasn't using the same size cup each time, if i got to the end of the day ready to go home and there was still water in it i would drink it on the drive home with my goal to have it empty by the time i walked in the door each day.
It worked really well for me but I did find i had to make sure to make a pitstop before the drive home if you catch my drift ;)
I love what you ladies are doing with these videos.
Someone once told me----A quality decison is one from which there is no retreat. Sounds like you made the quality decision.
I will also work a program for a well needed shed of the worlds uglist fat. Can you say----Help it is everywhere?
Blessings to all on your journey and for giving us such inspirationn. I send each of you exactly 1,000 heart hugs for carrying in your pockets and using as needed. You are so special for being willing to share in such an open way.Soul sisters are a powerful tribe
so glad we are on the road together.
Congratulations to all of you on the beginning of your journery to a healthier, happier you! And it's great to see that you are all doing it so sensibly, you are right in that it is all about making small changes and over time they will add up to the big changes that you want to see.
I am a WW's leader and I always say to women who are overwhelmed when starting, to just pick a few things to work on at a time (even one change is a good place to start) And the best ones I have found that most people tend to start with are journalling (or tracking) all of your food, drinking a lot of water introducing more movement or exercise into your life. So you are all on the right track!
Good luck with your journey and I look forward to seeing your updates.
2009 is going to be your year ladies!
Wow! I am in awe of all of you for doing something like this, putting it out there for everyone to see. You are all an inspiration and I wish you all the best of luck on your journey.
Very inspiring.... I know it doesn't work with the illiteration you've got, but I've nominated myself as the Sixth Phat Friend, so here goes:
Introduction:
My name is Lindsay and I am 26. I am a home fashion consultant by trade, but a graphic artist at heart, and tho new to paper crafting, I have fallen in love with card making!
Current health:
While I am still fairly young, I do know and understand the long term affects of an unhealthy lifestyle. I hope to work towards not having future health concerns. (at least the avoidable ones.)
Overall I'd say I would like to loose at least 40 lbs, and at most 60.
What are you going to work on the first week:
I am going to work on not eating so horribly, actually take the time to make myself a calorie wise, but delish meal, instead of just grabbing whatever is easiest (not to mention greasiest!)
I wish all of you much success in your journey, I will be right here along side you in your efforts.
i LOVE weight watchers!!! good luck Christina! I lost 60lbs right before I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter, Aubrey. Naturally, I gained some weight with the pregnancy. I gave birth Dec 5th, 2008 and rejoined WW on Dec 12th, 2008! BEST of luck! One pound at a time =) ~sending skinny vibes~
Ladies - congratulations on taking a first step on the journey to better health! Anything you do to improve your health has a positive impact. I did the same thing just over two years ago and lost 75 pounds. I have some ideas for you - many more than I'll list - so if you want more I can give you more.
-Water: drink only water. Figure out how it goes down best for you and drink it that way. Keep it with you at all times. (For me I drink it at room temperature in a big glass or from a big bottle.)
-Little changes: incorporate little changes into the food you eat and once it become habit, it will make a huge difference! Ex: ground turkey instead of ground beef. Low-fat dairy instead of full-fat. Whole grain bread instead of white (there is a good brand called Healthy Life - 35 cal per slice!) Smart Balance Lite instead of butter, or use the spray butter. There was no way I was going to give up the foods I loved and I didn't - I just switched to a good-for-me alternative. Incorporate the changes one at a time so you get used to one before you move to incorporate another.
-Have a Plan: find a food plan you can live with forever. No dieting! Work it like a class - study, learn it backwards and forwards, pay attention to it every day. If you don't plan what you eat, you won't eat what you should. Use a nutrition tracker (there are good free ones on line) to help you keep track of your intake. You'll get an A in the class, which translates into weight lost, inches lost, smaller clothes, more energy.
-Vary your workout so you don't get bored.
-Measure: weight is not the only measure of success! Don't be tied to that number on the scale. Take your measurements about once per month, including your weight. Exercise builds muscle, water weight fluctuates hourly. Smaller measurements is another way to see your efforts pay off!
-Indulge: yes. Indulge in a small thing each day. If you feel deprived you'll binge and that takes you back a huge step.
-Don't beat yourself up: no one can stay on the wagon 24/7 100%. If you do it 85% 85% of the time, you will see success!
I look forward to the next post and to hearing how you're meeting your goals and changing your life. It really is the BEST feeling in the world!! And never give up - no one knows what's going to happen next.
Best to all of you!
Becki
