MACM - Takeout Box + Card

122208-mac.jpg

Good morning, everyone!

First of all, thank you to everyone who has purchased this month's Virtual Card Club. It's been so fun to see what you've all done with it--even after posting it just over 36 hours ago! If you've created something using the card print-out in this month's VCC, send them along to me. I'd love to see them!

Anyway, this week's Make a Card Monday is all about finishing up those last minute gifts, and this takeout box it perfect for it. I found this pattern over at Kim's website and she was kind enough to allow me to adapt her pattern for my digital cutter, the Quickutz Silhouette.

So, here are the files I mention in the video for you to download:
  • Illustrator EPS file (for those cutting to the Silhouette using a Mac and Adobe Illustrator)
  • JPG image (for those on PCs who are cutting to the Silhouette or other digital cutters that allow jpeg images. For the instructions for the Silhouette, click here.)
  • PDF template (for those who want to just cut the box out. Also, this is the file that shows the scoring lines).
If you have any questions about the box, or from the video, please leave a comment. Thanks, and have a wonderful day!

As usual, an HD version of this video is available over at YouTube. But like last week's Finally Friday video, the audio if out of sync... not sure why. Hmm... must do with how I encode it. I'll try to figure out why and hopefully it will be fixed by next week. :)

Supplies - Oh Joy patterned paper (Cosmo Cricket); Old Olive wide grosgrain ribbon and Kraft card stock (Stampin' Up!); chipboard stickers (Basic Grey).

Very cute box! Thanks so much for sharing your video with us.

And Kristina, did you know that your Silhouette machine will 'score' your templates for you? The machine will make score lines utilizing a series of very small cuts spaced equally apart. If you'd like more information on how to do this, feel free to contact me. I'll even send you over a sample file or two :)

Cheers,
Sherry

I love your work. What advent calendar? Sounds intriguing -- for NEXT year...

Kristina says: It was the advent calendar in last month's Virtual Card Club. You can see a tiny bit of it here: http://kwernerdesign.com/blog/2008/11/virtual-card-club-december-2008.html

I'm really thinking about getting a silhouete cutter. Can you use any font, images etc and the silhoutte would cut it? I have a mac too so that means i would have to use the illustrator right. Please give me the pros and cons of the silhoutte. i dont know anybody that has one. I was thinking about the Slice too. But you said that you like this better. Help I can't decide.

Love the take out box.

Thank you!! Happy Holidays!!

Hi Kristina
Thanks for another great video. I have the Silhouette, so I tried the link to the jpg. file, but I didn't get the image, just a white box with a red x in it. Tried to rightclick and select show image, but that didn't work. Could you possibly be a darling and send the jpg. file to me by email? I would be so grateful for that =) Have a very merry christmas!

Kristina says: My computer was doing the same thing and wouldn't load the jpg. But I just kept hitting refresh and eventually it downloaded. Weird. I'm not sure why it's doing that. Try again and then let me know if that doesn't work. Thanks!

Hi Kristina! Thanks for another great video. I visited Archiver's for the first time today and saw many of the different brands of products that you use on your cards/videos. I'm just curious...where do you purchase most of your supplies? Do you buy them online or in a store? I am also in love with Thickers, and Archiver's has so many! Oh how I wish I could have them all! In my town, we only have Hobby Lobby and Michael's so the selections are quite limited. It was so fun to go to the "big store" today! Happy Holidays!

Love this video!
I even showed it to my husband and a co-worker who knows I purchased this machine! (Will get it in January)
Can you import & cut anything? any shape?
I keep searching for demos on how to use this silhouette and its accesories, how often do you need to change the sticky mat, what do you need the sketch pens for, etc.
Anyway, I'm addicted to your Finally Friday & Make a Card Monday :-)
Thanks for sharing,
Shir from Israel

Well, I've gone and done it............Ordered Sunday, Despatched yesterday, received today.............and I can't believe it arrived before Christmas! I'm very impressed with the Service I received from the Supplier!

Now all I got to do is set it up and have a play (Once I've sorted the Bomb Site that is my Craft Room lol!) Not before, it gives me incentive to tidy!

I told you I didn't know if I was to curse or thank you, so I've decide to say a big THANK YOU. Without you I prpbably would still be saying I didn't need a Digital Craft Cutter!

Just a quick query though (I hope I don't bother you with too many) Can I use your Illustrator EPS file on my PC or will I have to use the PDF? (Is it compatible as I know you have a MAC).

Hope this isn't too much of a stupid question as it's ages since I've used Illustrator properly and you know the old brain cells die after a while lol!

Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

and many thanks again
Suze x

Hee hee! I just made this box tonight to give to my neighbor. One note though, I printed out the .pdf and hand cut the template. The one hole on the cut edge is easy to punch out with the crop-a-dile but the other hole, I couldn't figure out how to punch out. Any tips? :)

Happy Christmas to you!
