Holiday Baking - Chocolate Chip Cookies with Annie

Annie, of last year's cookie baking fame, showed me how she makes her fabulous Chocolate Chip Cookies on Saturday night. Believe me, they were yummy! Here are the videos (it's in two parts) and the recipe follows. :)

(watch Part 1 in high quality)

(watch Part 2 in high quality)

Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • 1 cup of butter-flavored Crisco
  • 1-1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon (plus a little extra) vanilla
  • 2-1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon (plus a little extra) salt
  • 1-2 cups of chocolate chips (amount depends on personal preference - I prefer about 1.5 cups)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a mixing bowl, cream together the Crisco and brown sugar then add the eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture in the mixing bowl. Once all dry ingredients are mixed in then add chocolate chips. Scoop out dough with a cookie scoop, roll into a ball in your hands, and press the ball onto the lined cookie sheet (I use a Silpat). Press down the ball so it forms more of a disk shape about ½" thick and round the edges. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-11 minutes, or just before cookies turn golden brown. Drop the cookie sheet on a sturdy surface after you remove cookie sheet from oven to let cookies flatten a bit.

Hey, these are two great videos! It was fun watching them! The only problem I have here in Germany is getting the brown sugar (we have brown sugar here but it is different - like the white one just brown and not soft as yours). I also miss the chocolate chips and the great vanilla flavour. And the biggest thing I miss is a KITCHEN AID! I would love to have one but they are quite expensive here!
Thanks again for showing us the vids!

Those cookies seem delicious! I may sound silly, but i'm french, and here, we don't measure ingredients with cups. We do it in gramms. Could you tell me how heavy is a cup so i can try to bake those cookies? Oh, and i guess, it's fahrenheit degrees (but that i can translate in celsius!!)

Thanks for everything!

Sandy:

Why use crisco instead of real butter? Do the cookies have an authentic buttery flavor?

Hello!

I've read Novalen's comment. Maybe I can help with the measurements.
I thought I post this here just in case there are more readers here from outside the "cups" world... ;-)

1 cup equals 240 ml (236.64 ml to be exactly).
1 cup flour equals 140 g.
Brown sugar: 1 pound (464 g) equals 2 1/4 cups
1 teaspoon equals 5 ml

Hope that helps! If someone is interested in getting the soft brown sugar in Europe and the perfect chocolate chips go here. They deliver worldwide.
I am sure there are more places like this around but this is the one I found...

Ittima:

Hi Kristina,
Just wondering, which type of flour did you use? Plain or self-raising?
THanks

Kristina says: Just regular all-purpose flour. :)

These look delicious...Quick question on amount of crisco used...I noticed that Annie added 1 stick of Crisco but the recipe calls for 1 cup. Do the crisco sticks come in 1 c. measurements or are they 1/2 c. like butter. I'm not sure how much crisco to add. Thanks in advance

Kristina says: I believe 1 stick is 1 cup. :)

My brother-n-law makes the best Chocholate Chip Cookies. I usually use the back of the Toll House bag. I'm totally making Annie's recipe, I'm hoping my husband decides he likes them better than his brother's!

Thanks for the help Annie!!!

Just checking back. I was hoping there would be an answer about flour...plain or self rising? Also about the butter flavored Crisco. I've never used it, but I guess that question will be answered when I buy it. Gotta make these cookies. :^)

Kristina says: I think I answered your questions above, but if not, let me know. :)

Annie:

Hi Everyone!

The flour is just your standard flour, not self-rising. Also, one stick of Crisco is equal to one cup or two standard sticks of butter. Happy Baking!
