Absolutely adorable. Love the curls, I can see my nieces in them too can't wait to attempt it. :) I bet their curls are soo cute when they take them down. Have a great time!!
The first time I had it done like this was for my junior prom. Late one night, I had to drive 20+ miles from the beautician's house back home again and kept hoping that I wouldn't get into an accident on the way home.
Maybe it was because I had SO MUCH HAIR that I found it rather uncomfortable to sleep on it. (Rather lumpy.) Turned out BEAUTIFUL though!
I'm told Grandma used to do this to all of her girls on each Saturday night so that they were all curly for church on Sunday morning.
You don't have an "after" picture with the curls, do you? I remember how I loved when my mother curled my hair. That was before it started curling on its own! Now, of course, I love straightening it out. ;D haha!
I had that done to my hair as a kid. My mom and sister-in-law still do that to my nieces. I have super thick hair, so I remember it was very uncomfortable to sleep with these on. In New Mexico, these curls are called "caracoles"....snails.

What? No photos of the finished result? Bet they didn't have to sleep on them, either! My Mom used to use my socks to do mine when I was little - on Saturday night and I had to sleep on them to have curls on Sunday morning!

How did the curls turn out? I would love to see the finished project. My mom always used the sponge rollers and they were very hard to sleep in...
This is exactly what my Mother did we we three girls were growing up. Someone asked how you do this, You do use rags, Mom used strips of bed sheets, you tie the rag at the bottom of a strand of hair, just one tie, NOT a knot then you gently roll the strand up around that firt tie, until you get to the scalp then you gently tie it one more time. and Viola it stays and curls the hair
How cute or the girls!!! My late grandma always did my hair in rag curls.... Kinda wierd because I already had curly hair.... The cute pie with the green rags reminds me of the movie "a Little Princess" that is the exact green that the girls at the school wear.. I think they even had rags curls in the movie....I hope you had a great visit.

That is SO cute! I agree...I want to see the after pictures. :)
Thanks Sharon for telling us how to do it...I didn't know how, and now I want to go try it out. :)

Hey my grams used to do my sister and I with those curls for school pics. I have some pics of us with the school pics but wish someone would have been as thoughtful as you and got pictures of the before look and during process. Those will make a nice page. Kiss them for me they are adorable!

Oh My Gosh!!!! Talking about dating myself (53)..my mother used to do this to my hair and the curls were like ringlets when they were dry and lasted almost the whole week clear up in to high school. I did it to my daughter when she was little and now to her daughter (my granddaughter) especially when she has dance competitions which is about every three months. I have even taught this to some of the other mothers of the dance team as they were always asking my daughter how she got Kayla's so curly! This was done to my mother when she was little as well and she is 73! LOL!!!!!!
my mother always called those as scraprolls. kinda funny now .... but I love the girls photos and the curls ... brought back fond and painful memories as a little girl in the 60's. thank you!!
They are sooo ADORABLE!!! Love the rag curls...I totally forgot about those. My mom used to do bobbi pins instead, and when I was about 11 we started "zapping" our hair...braiding while wet to sleep on so we'd look like Rozanne Rozanna Dana! ;) hehehe

I *heart* rag curls!!!
I used to do them all the time as a kid, and until i got my curling iron last year I would still do them from time to time.
I hope my daughter wants curly hair, there was something nice about sitting on the floor in front of mum watching a movie while she did the curls
OOOH super cute! How do you do rag curls?
CUTE PICTURES!

Oh it made me remember my mom used to do that in my hair! I love your pictures!
How adorable! Is there anything cuter than little girls with rag curls? I think not.
Oh, this would make a cute scrap page!!
hahaha I used to do that all the time as a kid, good to know that the times haven't changed too much!
The girls are so adorable! Hope you've had a great trip.
My Mom used to do my hair that way when I was about their ages and I'm 61-years old now! Thanks for bringing back some memories!
yeah, we did this when we were kids... but we used the brown paper bags from the market :)
