MACM - Gift Card Holder

090808-macm.jpg Hi all! This week's card is actually a gift card holder. Long time readers of my blog might remember that I made a few these about a year ago. Well, I thought it was time to break it out and make another. Once again, this is based on a gift card holder I got from Kelly Lunceford. :)

In video editing news, I also switched to a more robust movie editing software and let me let you... It's SO complicated.

I was using iMovie previously and got Final Cut Studio 2. It's WAY more software then I'll ever need. Now I know how people feel when we jump into using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) for the first time--overwhelmed!

I mostly just wanted to making pretty little animated titles. I didn't need all this other stuff! Anyway, I hope you enjoy the little added features. I'm still figuring it out, so it might be a bit less polished this week. I need to figure out how to export the video with the best quality. There are so many settings! AHH!

BTW, the video is MUCH better in high quality (click here and then on high quality beneath the video).

Supplies: Eastern Blooms stamp set, Basic Black and Whisper White card stock, Basic Black ink, Old Olive wide grosgrain ribbon, 1-3/4" circle punch, pastels (Stampin' Up!); patterned fabric paper (KI Memories); brads (American Crafts); VersaMark ink.

Lovely little gift card holder, I'll be borrowing the template soon. :)

I didn't get that stamp set and now am wondering if I made the wrong decision. That big flower is killer.

I love this card! I have been wanting to see techniques for using pastels and you happen to do it this week on MACM. Funny coincidence. The new description features during the video are great. I am going to Scrap Fest too! I am really excited after reading about it on you blog.

Love the new video tools. So fancy! The card is so cute. I have made gift card holders in the past but this templet is so easy I may change my technique.
Thanks for sharing.

LOVE the use of the daubers with your pastels, too; I've never used the daubers for anything but now I see they do have a very real purpose; thanks!!!

Kristina, way to go with Final Cut. Your new video format looks awesome! I went to film school years ago and still can't figure out Final Cut. You are a creative genius in more ways than one! Really like the bright color contrast with the pastels on the black card stock. I learned that versamark/pastel technique at one of my card swap meets. Really nice! As always, thank you for your inspiration!

ANSWERING A QUESTION:

fiona y, I'm actually posting all the supplies at the end of each post now. :) Easier to find that way. So, the punch is listed there.

Hope that helps! :)

Stephanie T:

Great video, thanks for sharing.

While I know there really isn't a "wrong" way to do it, I have a little tip... when scoring your cardstock, it's easier and will make a prettier fold if you fold WITH the score line, rather than against. It will also stay closed on it's own more easily. I'm not sure if that makes sense. Basically, when you score, you're making an indention in the paper, therefore it most easily becomes the INSIDE of the crease while the raised part on the reverse side makes a great OUTSIDE.

I LOVE THIS!!!!! I gotta dust off the pastels, cuz this is anything BUT pastel!! Really cute!!

Have you made it to Takashi yet?

Becki Flanagan:

Kristina - This is a great design and color scheme! I do love using the sponge daubers for all kinds of things and it worked great for the pastels.

For those who criticize you for using non-SU products, you absolutely gave the right answer. Besides, if you are not a demonstrator or you're doing something personal (which your blog is), then you have every right to use whatever you want - this is the USA last time I checked my address! I'd like to hear from just one person who does not have some non-SU products in their stamp supplies.

I love your MACM videos and the other things you post. One day I will get in on the color inspiration in time to submit!

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing... hope your back is feeling great and you are back to your sweet, creative self! *HUGS*

love this card! I have been trying to come up with a cute and fast gift card holder, this is perfect! And I've never opened my pastels so maybe I'll try that too!

ANSWERING QUESTIONS:

Stephanie T - Technically, the bump of the score should on be inside the fold. That's the way printers score card stock when it's mass produced. I think I learned that in college when I was learning about taking things to press. But, whatever works, ya know! :)

Lydia - YouTube has started making high quality video options for all videos that are larger files sizes. For example, usually my 5-minute video are about 400MB. This week's was smaller because I haven't figured out the settings in Final Cut, but it was still around 150MB. If your file is larger, usually that means it will post at YouTube with a "watch in high quality" option.

Roxyf - All the supplies and music from the video are listed after the video in this entry. :)

Loved the card & the new graphics! Kept waiting for some graphics when you pulled out the dimensionals....something along the line of " here they are, no leave me alone about the dimensionals already!!!" :)

How do you do the pastels so neatly? Mine come out all over the page, nit just on the versa/white crafted image. Thanks!

Love the stylie little pop out tips: very cool!
Also while I'm here; how crazy that people are giving you slack for not using all SU products! I am a demo, but the world doesnt revolve around SU! You can do whatever the heck you want! Not to come out all 1990's on you, but 'You go girl!'
And congrats on the new Garden Girl position! SAWEET!!

Snap...I recently leant how to use Pastels with Versamark and Daubers and love it. I love the colour design on the flower. I found some different sized Daubers from Birch Craft (Australian Company)which had great thin ones for just going over fine lines without the pastels spreading everywhere.

Do you attempt to totally clean your daubers of just keep one for each colour/similiar colours?

I placed an order last night and struck the Eastern Blooms before I finalized. Drat! Also, the T-square technique for scoring looks really cool, especially since I just spent a fortune on a Scor-Pal! Timing is everything! One question, though. Why did you punch out a hole? I'm so confused! LOL
