MACM - Circle Window Card with Vellum

092208-macm1.jpg

092208-macm2.jpg Good morning, all!

I had so many questions about this card, I just had to make a video on it. :) I also decided to have it do double duty and I use this week's MACM as my Color Inspiration card. Such pretty autumn colors, right? :)

I'll be back tonight to post the selections for this week's round-up. I have an eye appointment this morning so I don't have the time to the post them now. Forgive me!

I also wanted to point you guys over the the Garden Girls blog over at TwoPeas. Today was my day to post a little something, so I have a few more cards over there. They use more of the AC Flair that I used for this month's card club, so now if you buy the flair, you'll have plenty of ideas on how to use them! :)

Have a wonderful day and I'll catch you guys tonight!

Watch in high quality here (click on "watch in high quality" below the video).

Danelle A:

Thanks so much for sharing!! I actually made this card a couple of weeks back when you first posted the idea. I love it! I have a question for you about it, though... how do you put the sentiments or writing inside? If you write inside, it will show through the vellum - and lose the sweet "look" of the card. For mine, I went to WAY too much trouble and did a pocket of sorts inside, so the sentiment was hidden on a tag inside - leaving just solid cardstock showing through the vellum. (Hard to explain, I know.) Anyway, just curious to know what you do with the inside. :)
Thanks!

Vellum:

that isn't vellum - vellum is a thin parchment made out of calfskin, originally used before paper in east europe for scribes. to write one bible you needed about 140 calfs to make all the vellum. also vellum isn't transparent it's white.

loved the song

Yep, you're right about the vellum. However, the paper I used on this card is known as "vellum" within the crafting industry. When you go to a craft store and ask for vellum, you will be directed to what I used.

Lori A.:

How do you get such nice cuts with your Coluzzle?? I bought one from Stampin' Up earlier this year and my cuts are always jaggedy. Am I cutting it wrong or did I get a bad blade? :)

Great card and vid this week! Loved it, bet we'll see circle cards all over the net today!

Lori - are you using the special colluzle mat when you cut? It's almost impossible to get a good cut without it. Other than that it's a practice thing, or maybe try changing your blade? HTH!

Great card! I've been wanting to make a circle card and you just inspired me to go ahead and try it -- I'm wondering how I'll mail it, so something else to figure out! Had to crack up at the song -- I kept thinking when I read the "preview" that there couldn't be two songs with same name but it really grew on me! You're so much fun!

I too would like to know how you handle the sentiment inside without it showing through the vellum and "mucking up" the look of the vellum.

You are multi-talented! Not only can you create fantastic cards but you are great at making videos too! I love your tutorial.

Is the polka dot background still available? And is it SU?

Lastly, just curious, have you ever tried Creative Memories custom cutting system for your circles and ovals? You do a great job with the coluzzle but I just wondered if you have tried CM's? (I have both systems and LOVE CM's) I know everyone has a preference but I just wondered if you had tried it.

I'm going to subscribe to your blog - you are quite an inspiration to me - a fairly new stamper! :)

I loved your use of vellum on this card. And who knew we were in for a history lesson on vellum. I think most people in the paper crafting industry are fully aware that it is "paper vellum" and not vellum made from mammal skins (who would want that on there card anyway?).

Vellum according to Wikipedia-
Today, because of low demand and complicated manufacturing process, animal vellum is expensive and hard to find. A modern imitation is made out of cotton. Known as paper vellum, this material is considerably cheaper than animal vellum and can be found in most art and drafting supply stores. Some brands of writing-paper and other sorts of paper use the term "vellum" merely to suggest quality, when it is actually not vellum. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vellum)

Such a pretty card. Very simple and sweet. That is what I like about your cards. They're simple and cute and very easy to make!
Oh? another thing?......your hair is getting long. Don't cut it Kristina, you should let it grow long that way you can have long sexy wavy hair. Something different for the fall, don't ya think??
Take care! Happy Tuesday!

Speaking of "Vellum" did you use the Cardstock or paper Vellum and what is the main difference in the Su version of both. I never know which to buy from SU.

Kristina, I love your circle cards :) I recently bought a coluzzle set because of seeing you use it! But as I was watching this video i was wondering, wouldn't it look nicer if the vellum was glued onto the front of the card underneath the frame so that it looks nice and neat on the inside too? Just a thought :) Love your blog!

Angela Brennan:

Hi Kristina

Very nice card. After seeing your circle vellum card for CI #19, I made one for my nephew, but I used a disney patterned vellum (from EK Success). For the insert, I cut out folded white (or you can use coloured paper to enhance your vellum pattern or embossing) paper with circle #2 of the circle colluzle. That way your message inside will not spoil the vellum design.

I sent the card in a square 12.5 cm envelope. It fit in well. I made the envelope from the WS Design square envelope template.

Hope the above helps some of you.

Cheers
Angela

Hi

I love your videos, and look forward to it every week. I love your simple yet creative style, and your music selection rocks! Ever thought of creating something on acetate? I am so dying to see what you will do! I have been toying with the idea for a while, but I am so worried I am going to melt the acetate or something if I emboss it, or smear the image if I stamp it. Help!

Cheers
