The blueprint of a card

Sorry kids. No MACM this week. Why, you ask? This is why...

060208-messyroom.jpg

Yep. I have a messy craft area. It's actually one of the reasons I haven't been too motivated to create anything recently. BUT! That's about to change!

After procrastinating cleaning out my craft room, it's down to just a few days before I HAVE TO have it all done. New roommate Jen moves in this weekend so I need to have it all in order so that she can move her stuff in, too. We'll be sharing the office, and I was definitely taking up more than half my share. :) So, I moved the stamp set shelves into the closet --the walk-in-closet--and I lined the shelves up side by side so I could see the stamp sets easier). There's still a lot of random junk in the closet, but at least my stamps have a home. :)

I'm slowly going through ALL my stuff and giving a lot of it away. Stuff I'm just not too excited about or that I know I'll never get around to using. I'm taking in a big box of stuff to the office this morning to share with the work buddies. But I'm sure I'll have even more tonight when the cleaning commences once again. Speaking of, leave a comment here and I'll randomly pick a name tonight. That person will receive a little somethin' from my stash of giveaway goodies. :)

Anyhow, not too long ago I created some cards for the scrapsupply.com newsletter (see the May 2008 newsletter). As I was cleaning out my craft room I found this notepad (from M.O.):

060208-sketches.jpg

Oh yeah! I forgot I sketched out ideas for this card:

KWmaycard3.jpg

In fact, you might recognize one of the sketches from another card. Which was is it, eh? ;) Anyway, have a happy Monday ya'll and I'll catch you tonight when I post my Color Challenge card and the selections for the last challenge.

I feel your pain! My craft room looks about the same as yours at the moment, hard to get motivated when it looks like teenage boys live here.

Good luck with with cleaning!

I'm organizing my craft space also. It seems to go in waves of looking better and looking worse while things are being sorted! Good luck with your process.

As a fellow messy type I thought you might enjoy the following which I have posted over my desk:
"Those proud of keeping an orderly desk will never know the thrill of finding something they thought they had irretrievably lost"

Enjoy your creative chaos!

My stamp room looks the same- you are right, it really just suck the motivation right out of me. I feel like it's such a big project to clean it up and I'm just not up for the challenge right now.

I just recently went through the same process of purging out the old and making room for the new! Check out my stamp room redo for ideas if you get a chance!

here is my attempt to find a silver lining to that cloud of a job looming over you:

at least it's not the garage! everything you touch is a cute little papercraft item, not a yucky, smelly bag of fertilizer or grimy tool.

hope that helps...

I don't even have a craft room. I have a craft workspace in my utility room. And it stays messy. Here's my theory....messy = creative.

Megan:

I completely understand the frustration with the unorganized craft space. I have to same problem and in turn I to don't have the desire to craft it up as often as I would like.

Don't worry though...a few hours of organizing and you will be ready to craft again!

I feel your pain. When my DD was born, my craft room became her room. Now my stamps are organized and reside in our walk-in closet. I've been sifting through old treasures and trying to decide which beloved stamps need to go to a new loving home.

Good luck and thanks for all you do! You are amazing!

Kathy Souders (Kathy S. on SCS):

I have this same issue. I cannot create in chaos. I do notice that when I take a crafting hiatus and clean my area, I come back with mucho mojo. Can't wait to see what you come up with :)

June 2, 2008 @ 6:50 AM
28

boxes...check, paper...check, ink...check, cardboard boxes...check, chaos...check & double check!

There's nothing like necessity to bring on a good clean-out...that & not being able to see the floor. Hope your re-organising goes well. I'm sure you'll feel totally refreshed to make some creative mess once it's all re-organised.
Best wishes
Di

PS: I'll think of you as I work through my mess tomorrow too!

I just cleaned up my little area and everything was so neat I couldn't create! lol so I had to mess it up again! lol... (but not as messy though ! lol)
Hope your mojo comes running in full force at you soon! :)

I feel like keeping a craft area clean is like keeping up with laundry--it just never ends!

Your room looks much like mine right now.... You are so good at inspiring me to create wonderful cards, and now you've inspired me to get that room cleaned up and organized a little bit! Can't wait to see your color challenge card...

June 2, 2008 @ 6:55 AM
34

Oh my, yes, I too am not all that motivated when my zone is crazy. Since I am still in the ever so slow process of organizing it, I just put up some floor to ceiling curtains over the worst area & then just keep my desk in order. Not good to hide the mess, but at least that way no one has to see it.

Let us know how you finally organized it, I'm sure it'll motivate me to "downsize" the mess a bit. Wonderful card, btw!

Jo:

Hmmm, understand about mess = unmovitated. But the bright side of things, you've got a craft room to clean! At the moment the mess on my crafting table, oops I mean kitchen table is getting higer and higher. Soon I won't be able to see my partner who sits at the other end, LOL

Have fun, sometimes there's nothing better than a big cleanout

Cheers

I am doing this today too! We adopted two children a couple of years ago and they got my craft room. I now work from our walk in closet and bedroom. Continual downsizing is a must for me to be able to keep creating. Good luck with your project.

oo oo oo...me me me!
So last week we (as in me and all 4 kiddos) go over to a lady's house that I highly regard. The littles had all been forewarned that we were only playing outside. When she opened the door, the 5 year old says, "oh, I see why we can't go inside, it's because your house is so messy." Humility, it's what kids do best.

Amazing how we still manage to find what we are looking for when our craft rooms look like that, isn't it? You just sit there and say to yourself "I know I saw it.... it's here somewhere..."

Happy spring cleaning to you. Perhaps, you will inspire us all again.... this time, to clean!

Great job on starting to clean. I think I do it once every couple of months!!! It feels so good to have everything in place (for at least on hour or so)...

Kristina,
Good luck with the room. I am helping my brother-in-law design a room for my sister for her 50th birthday. Any ideas or goodies would be welcome.
