MACM - Thank You

061608-macm1.jpg

061608-macm2.jpg Good morning! It's so early, it's not even bright and sunny here yet. I'm writing this at 12:15 in the morning! :)

Before I head off to bed, here's this week's card. Sort of a different card for me. But the more I look at it, the more I like it.

Often I'm asked if I work from sketches when I make my Make a Card Monday videos. Sometimes I do. However, this card was created by just wingin' it. I had no plan whatsoever. Sometimes that works out for the good and other time it's atrocious. You just never know what you're going to get, ya know?

What about you guys? Do you plan ahead? Play it by ear? Or maybe something in between. If I don't have a sketch, usually I'll at least know a few things that I'd like to use, I put them out on my desk, and then I start creating. But like I mentioned above, this card was just random. Flyin'-by-the-seat-of-my-pants-random. :)

Enjoy!

A long time fan here.

Love the monochrome card with the pop of colour.

Just perfect.

I ditto what lauren said.

I love this card and love how you brightened up the monochrome theme with the 'you' - I just bought a bunch of black and white paper so I'm going to try and do something like this.

Also LOVE MACM! I only found your blog about 2 weeks ago and I've already watched all your videos.. ahh. Addicted already!

I seem to use sketches a lot these days... I guess it helps when there are so many around! But I think for the most part they're good for getting over the "blank canvas" jitters. If you have that layout already done then it is just a matter of fitting other things to it. That said, I tend not to stick hard and fast to sketches and I like that... often the card turns out better if you let it do what it wants rather than trying to make it into something it's not, IYKWIM. Anyway, I generally have three things worked out before I really start on a card: colours, stamps and layout... sometimes it is planned to the finest detail, other times I'll just take those three ingredients, throw them in the pot and see what comes out.

I really love that Sassafrass Lass paper. Will have to find some here. Also a fond of angles.

Rarely do sketches, that's why my desk always ends up a mess at the end of the work: "try this, 'nope' what about his 'nope'"

Thanks for pulling a late night. Be well, Amy.

When I first saw this card -- I thought it had been typed on an old fashioned typewriter -- the kind you had to sling the carriage back (now I'm really dating myself)!

I don't sketch out a card -- I just go with the flow -- and when I'm finished my desk is full of stamp sets, ribbon galore, etc!

Thanks for sharing!

I love the card. Thanks for another week of fun. I usually surf through the internet and my magazines looking for inspiration. I have recently started to use sketches for my cards. I love them since they give you a great starting point on the design of the card. Not having to worry about balance and other stuff, I have more time to experiment with different textures and techniques. That's where I am now, experimenting with other textures and materials.

One question, What do you do with all those ribbon scraps you must have. I have noticed your way of using ribbon, and you must have tons of scraps. Do you usually create something with them or just throw them away???

Well, now I am off to work but this afternoon I am going to make this week and last week MACM's.

Have a super nice week!!!!

Well, I wing it and that's why I didn't submit anything for colour inspiration #11 - they (the resultant 3 that I did make) didn't end up fitting the criteria, LOL.....Well, you get that, it's part of the fun, or frustration, depending on the time of night! LOVE MACM and the colour inspiration challenges - Thanks for all the time you dedicate to this:)

Kristina as usual your card is gorgeous!!

I usually have an idea in my head about the card I want to create but by the time I've finished it looks nothing like what I planned lol

I only use sketches if there's a sketch challenge that I like. I do Beate's challenge often and I'm liking a few others that I haven't had a chance to try yet. I love the color challenges more because I am free to do whatever since I'm more into the winging it and see what happens.

Merry in NJ:

Kristina, thanks for another gorgeous card! I've been watching your videos on your blog for months now -- it's the last thing I do before I get in the car so I can at least start my Monday with a smile on my face! I love your style!

As for sketching, sometimes I draw something quickly on the edge of the big paper I use to protect my dining room table while I work. But mostly I try to follow an idea in my head -- and my best cards are nothing like what I thought they'd look like!

I too am addicted to MACM! Thanks for posting early enough for me to start out early here on the east coast.
Just one question: how many times can you reposition those stickers so that they still stay stuck???

Finally, a card created in a similar way I do. I just usually wing it like the two Father's Day cards I made yesterday morning. I always end up making cards at the last minute. If I see a sketch I like I put it in my notebook and hope to get some cards done ahead of time. Yours are always super cool. Thanks for sharing.

The Mamas and Papas, now that takes me back to before you were born. :D
Cute card, good music and hey ~ did you perm your hair? It looks great, especially for after midnight!

I like to use those vinyl letters as well, but I find that when i reposition them they leave a sticky, gross residue behind. Do you have a similar problem?

I usually don't work from sketches...I just go for it and sometimes it is good, and sometimes it is bad...but I like it that way. :-)

Bev:

Hey Kristina!
Thanks for another great MACM! My 4 year old son walkd by while I was watching it and says " Hey! She's making a card! I love that girl!" Hehehe. He then sat on my lap to finish watching it with me. He wonders how you can make a card so quick and it takes Mommy soooo long.
Thanks for that. Bwahahaha.

I usually do an SCS challenge everyday, so I start from a challenge or I go into my SCS favorites to get a starting point, or...I'll find something in a magazine that "speaks to me". I should start a skecth jounal though.

Great card!

I'm so sad because I had that American Craft ribbon set in my hand the other day and was going to buy it, but ended up not buying it. Now I want it! LOL!

Love the Sassafras paper, too.

Love the card this week! I usually do everything by winging it, so I liked that you did it that way this time. When it comes to creating, I'm a total fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl!

Amber:

Cute card! Unless I am in a hurry, I rarely work just spur of the moment. I have to have some inspiration or a sketch handy to know what I am doing, otherwise it usually ends up hideous!

faithful:

Thank you so much for taking your time to prepare and provide your MACM videos.

I actually struggle when trying to use a sketch preferring to consider the images and colors in my mind and then go raid supplies to see what will fit. Sketch challenge results are wonderful to look through even if not participating myself.

Q:

What a great card - I love the thickers - how do you get them to stick for good once you get them placed just right? When I use thickers, they usually begin to get loose and fall off after a few days.

Love your MACM cards and today's was no exception!

You must be going thru your black phase. I have noticed that your last couple cards all use a lot of black. It can be hard to keep it from looking morbid.

Great card - and I just love how you tied the ribbon - I usually cut too short and then I'm in trouble! - loved the color combination and the DP is gorgeous. And thanks for the song ... it's been a long long time and it brought many memories. Thanks for sharing your talent!

Tammy:

I make cards in multiples--usually 10 or 12. I keep them around to use and when I'm down to the last couple of cards I'll make a note to myself like "make women's birthday cards!". Then when I go down to my stamping/laundry room (notice which came first!), I at LEAST know WHAT I'm making. I'll flip through the Stampin' Up Idea Book & Catalog or other sketches I have around, and find a layout that I like. Then I'll pull out some colors that I'm "feeling". Then I'll pick out stamps based on the occasion and "mood" of the layout and colors I've picked out. Then stamp, stamp, stamp! So then I have this little pile of cards. I pull out one to save for my "book" and I write down everything I used on the back. So much fun!!!

I'm a long time blog-fan of yours, and you inspired me to try my hand at putting together a vid of my own. It's rough and so totally amateur...lol. But it's all mine...haha.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Great card! It is a little bit different than your 'usual', but it still has a very definite "Kristina" feel...probably from the use of typography, and the fact that it's still a very clean layout, even with the 'busier' pattern in the background. I love it ;)

I usually start with something I want to use (a new stamp set, a fun embellishment, new papers), but there are times when I just go with whatever...those usually don't turn out so well, though! Sometimes I start with a sketch from my sketchbook, but that's actually pretty rare for me...I usually just make up the layout as I go along :)

This is really pretty. I love it! I sometimes will work with a sketch but pretty much just go with whatever catches my eye...be it a stamp or embellishment...whatever.

Have you ever realized that when you buy readymade suits you get a choice of only a few colors & styles, also finding the perfect fit are quite difficult? Wouldn’t it be better to choose from over 2000 different British & Italian fabrics and get a tailor made suit at a similar price that you pay for readymade suits?

We are a company based in Hong Kong and have been providing custom made suits & shirts since 1997. With representatives in major cities around the globe we can arrange to show you the fabric samples and take your measurements, or you can also place your orders online with the help of our measuring guide. There are over 2000 fabrics to choose from along with all the latest styles.

All our suits and shirts are produced by highly skilled Shanghainese tailors in Hong Kong and delivered in about 4 weeks, express delivery can be made in 2 weeks at a minor extra cost. In case you are not able to find what you are looking for then please let us know your requirement may it be in words or by a photograph and we could arrange it for you.

We also have an outlet at the Hotel Intercontinental Budapest where you are most welcome to visit us. Though we are not located in streets like Savile Row (London), we have still been able to offer made to measure suits to many VIP’s from around the world.
