Pictures from yesterday, and an update

Apparently, some people people on our cruise can drive scooters. :)

And most Bermudians drive scooters, too.

Went on a tour of Hamilton and St. George yesterday. Bermuda is acutally only 21 square miles, with the widest portion being only 1-1/2 miles wide, so we covered nearly everything on our tour.

The view of the water near Hamilton.

We went to one of the lighthouses here in Bermuda and I was fascinated with the bright red shutters on the lighthouse's windows. Love it!

Outside some shops in St. George. The street were pretty empty because we're actually the first cruise ship of the tourist season. Generally, people don't start coming for a few weeks from now.

A home in Bermuda. The owners collected old apple juice bottles, and filled them with colorful waters. I guess the bright colors keep stray dogs and cats away.

Taken from the bus window as we drove by.

This is the view from my bus window as we sped across a bridge. Bermuda is made up of many little islands, so there are many bridges.

At John Smith Beach. We got out of the bus for a few minutes. Sadly, we couldn't stay longer.

One of the historic homes in Bermuda, this is Verdmont. It was so awesome! What makes this home unique is the fact that even though it was built hundreds of years ago, it still is in its original condition. Only three different families have owned it, the third being the historical society in Bermuda. For some reason, the owners have never upgraded the interior to include indoor plumbing or electricity. It literally is just as it was when it was built.

We finished out the day by going on a glass bottom boat tour over one of the many reefs. I didn't get any good fish photos (the glass was super thick), but I did get a photo of the gorgeous sunset. My word, the sunsets here are amazing.
As for today, I've spent the day on the ship. I finally went to the infirmary on the ship last night because my knee was looking pretty bad. Nothing they could do except to tell me to take some ibuprofen and try to relax. Thanks. Oh, and they gave me a tetnus (sp?) shot. Joy. Now my arm hurts, too.
Basically, the doctor said I'm lucky I didn't break anything. I hit one side of knee really bad, and it looks like the bruise goes all the way through to the other side. Believe me, it's not pretty. A war wound. Seriously.
But, hey, for those from work who are checking in, I have to say that I'm not the only one who's had some adventures on and falling off a scooter. Angie had a run in with a palm tree, but no worries. She's just fine. No injuries, the stinker! I hit a curb and come back all black and blue--she practically drives a scooter up a tree, and rolls over onto the grass and starts laughing! :)
BTW, thanks for all your well wishes. If anything, I think my stupid injuries are making me slow down a bit and relax. In fact, this morning, I went to the hydrotherapy pool, thermal beds (some heat for my back), and then read out by the pool. I was pretty slathered up with sunscreen yesterday so I don't look like I've even been in the sun, but today I didn't wear any. I was laying in the sun for about 20 minutes. Didn't want to chance it. I think I have a slight bit of color, but let's face it. I'm either red or white. There's no in between. So I"m just trying to not go home extremely red. :)

I feel your pain. I am either lobster or albino. Sorry you were injured on your trip. Brown is a color that seems to elude my body...well except from certain parts, but we won't go there ;). Hope you recuperate soon. Say hi to Annie, if you see her!
Sus.
Wow! It looks so beautiful there. Glad your having a good time...I think! Rest up.
Beautiful pictures!! I love the glass bottles with the colored water -- what a neat idea! The last picture is my absolute fave though -- SO pretty!
Hey Kristina! Thanks for all the beautiful pics. I'm so sorry were hurt! Hope you are still able to enjoy the rest of the trip. Take care and wear your sunscreen!! (That's the mom in me fussing!!!) ;)
Wow what stunning photos. I'm loving following your trip..I used to work on cruise ships and we stopped there every week for about 6 months. Fabulous place. Hope your injuries heal quickly!!
Yippee! More trip news! You crack me up about your war wounds! (No, it's not funny that you got hurt, but you know what I mean!) :) You're a trooper... glad you're getting to relax some. Always a good thing!
Oh, and definitely don't get burned. Burned is bad! LOL!
OK, as a Physical Therapist, I have to tell you to go get your knee looked at when you get home - just in case!! I live on Maui and you wouldn't believe the number of people who seriously injure their joints (torn ligaments, damanged cartilage, or worse) on those damn scooters!! Otherwise, enjoy the rest of your trip and Stay Safe!! :-)
So glad you're having a nice trip, in spite of your little detour. Take some time and smell the roses..or asphault..or tanning oil.... Whatever, just enjoy this beautiful trip!
Enjoying your pictures very much...will be going on a Holland America cruise to Alaska in June so I'll take any advice you have about cruising. Hope your knee heals soon and keep putting on that sunscreen!
Oh girl - I'm sorry! I feel your pain. The relaxing is nice though!! I think you should get a 90 minute massage just to make yourself feel better about all of it.
Bermuda looks gorgeous. A group of about 25 people from the company I used to work for just arrived there today. If you see a tall strawberry blonde man on a mountain bike or at Starbucks - he's my friend!! :)
I told them there were a bunch of crazed stampin' ladies there!!! I didn't tell them to beware of the scooters though.. I think I'll let them figure it out, heh heh.
I hope you feel better. Take it easy. It really does take longer if you overdo it.
I'm tellin ya the heat for your back is going to swell your muscles. You'll be aching in the morning. Ice it - 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.
Beautiful pics by the way.
I feel your pain. I went para-sailing last month and twisted my ankle. I didn't know toes could bruise and an ankle can stay swollen for such a long time. I was so excited when i could finally chase my three-year old. I would definitely recommend the massage and enjoy the time to relax.
Have a great time on the cruise. Feel better. LOVE the PICS!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and I really hope you're feeling better! Beautiful pictures and thanks for sharing!
Great pics...wish I could be there but I will live vicariously through you! Sorry to hear about your knee...I'm surprised you haven't posted a pic of that!
I love your blog...been a long time reader but this is my first post/reply!
Enjoy the trip and get well soon!
So sorry about your scooter mishap. Sounds like something i would do. Take care of your knee and rest up. Ouch
Oh dear, i miss one day not reading your blog only to read today that you fell off your scooter.Hope you are feeling better. It's good that you are resting a little on the ship. That's what cruises are for; sitting on a lounge and being taken care of and of course you can go to the spa and get pampered. Hope your pain is not so bad today. I love the pictures you took. I've never been to Bermuda. You are such a good photographer. Take care and thanks for sharing your trip with us all.
Ouch. Sorry to hear your knee is still bothering you so much. Is your back okay? My husband and I went to the Bahamas for our honeymoon. We thought it would be fun to rent a scooter or a motorcycle to see our little island. Uh, wrong! My husband went about 5 feet on the motorcycle and turned it around. We rented bikes instead! Ha!
Love your pics! Enjoy the rest of your time!
Kristina thanks so much for the updates....this is the first year I am reading on the cruise. I feel bad that I will never make it. But your daily updates make me feel like I am there! Sorry about your mishap but maybe there was an unlying reason.....REST!!! Maybe that's what you needed from the beginning.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and keep us posted about the new products and your NEW stamp set!
Well, next time you know to avoid the curb and head for the palm trees! I too am either red or white, with brown spots! I'm a redhead, so I have a few freckles. I actually never had freckles on my legs until I got very red in Cancun!
The pictures are beautiful! So sorry to hear that you're still suffering from your scooter incident! I hope that you're still able to enjoy yourself. Rest & relax!
thank you for sharing pictures..........love the sunsets, heavenly rays!!!
I hope you are ok with your knee. I know how you feel about getting hurt on vacation. We just got back from Disneyland and I backed up too far taking a picture and fell in a fountain in Downtown Disney and cracked my head open. All I could think about while the Disney Nurse was pouring bactine all over my head was... How am I going to do my hair for the rest of the week? I lived, but I was more humiliated than anything. I will stay out of fountains, you stay off of scooters!!!!!
Have a wonderful rest of your cruise!!!!
Take care,
Carie

Sorry to hear about your knee. That is such a bummer. Why is it that tetnus shots hurt so much?
Hello- Wondering if this is the Stampin' Up Cruise that you are on? Or just a fun vacation? Hope you feel better soon. Catherine
Awesome pics. I just found your blog recently and look forward to visiting often
Hey - now you have a great vacation story!!! I too am wondering why you didn't post a knee pic (TMI) just curious - did they have stamping on the cruise? Glad you had fun - Welcome back kiddo

Thanks for sharing the gorgeous pics...hope the rest of your trip was without much incident...of the painful kind anyway...
Beautiful pictures. I'm sure it was even better looking in person.
Welcome back,
Michelle
Looking at your pictures brought back memories! I lived in St Georges, Bermuda for two years but I came back last November. It so beautiful over there!!!! I went around on scooters for the whole two years and never had an accident. I know I was extremely LUCKY because so many of the people I knew over there had come off their bikes at some time or another. Its also really common for the cruise ship passengers to have accidents - I saw a fair few myself. Anyway I hope your leg is better by now and I really love your awesome cards!
