MACM - Happy Birthday to You!

032408-macm1.jpg

032408-macm2.jpg Hi all!

This week's MACM is just a simple card that can be pulled together quickly (just in case you miss someone's birthday). :) And don't you just LOVE the wide green stain ribbon. Totally in love with it. I have a thing for satin ribbons... just so pretty!

You'll notice in the video that I used American Crafts patterned paper. One of the reasons I really like their patterned paper is that the backside is a solid color. So when I need a solid that matches and isn't as heavy as card stock, I can just use the opposite side.

Even though Stampin' Up! offers solid card stock, sometimes I wish for a solid side in Stampin' Up! patterned papers. Sometimes a girl wants the solid color in a lighter weight, ya know? Like when covering a tin box, for example. Have you guy encountered this, too?

So, how do you prefer your patterned paper? Take my informal survey below, and then watch this week's video. :)

Thanks for the card ... LOVE the ribbon. Have an awesome time on your cruise. I love how you think of us & MACM, looking forward to seeing it whenever it is published.

My cousin is heading out on the S.U. Bermuda cruise leaving from NY next week too. Right about now, I'm feeling quite jealous of ya'll. Have fun. Amy.

Beautiful card, Kristina! I am going to go CASE it now. I've been to Bermuda twice and it is a lovely, relaxing place. You're sure to get a lot of color inspiration there.

Ever shopped from scrapbookingwarehouse.com? They overcharged me and have not returned three phone calls or two emails. Buyer beware! Don't shop from them!!

Have a wonderful cruise.

Hey a cruise for you! Yay!

I totally love how you use ribbon, which is why I thought of you this morning when I picked up a book from the library for a little fun reading. You seem to enjoy doing new and unusual things, so I thought I'd share. Jo Ann Stores Inc. put out a book called "Your Guide to Creativity". The book touches on all sorts of different creative things, many of which I think could be addapted to paper crafts. One section in particular focused on making ribbon flowers...with all your beautiful ribbon I could see you doing something for a card. If you have a library near by you should check it out...it's pretty inspiring since there are many many pictures!

have fun on your cruise!

Great card today. I really like it. I came across you blog a couple of weeks ago & I really enjoy your MACM! I like my paper patterned on one side and solid on the other for the very reasons you stated. Keep up the great work!

Hey - another cute, cute card!! I totally agree about the patterned paper/solid color thing. I can be a bit of a matching freak and it frustrates me when I have a patterned paper that I really like and not a solid color to go with it.

Question about the rub ons --- I have seen in SU catalogs putting them on coffee cups, vases, etc -- do you knwo if you have to heat set that or anything?? Thought was cute, but did not knwo if it would last. My SU demo has not tried it and did know know the anwer. If you have rub on tips, would love to hear them!

Super cute card, as usual!

You may have already answered this question before, but doesn't it bother you to have the back of the brad showing on the inside of the card? Normally I would put the brad through the layer of DP.

I **LOVE** MACM!! It makes my week just a little more bearable.

If you like patterned paper with a solid reverse side, CTMH sells lots and lots of it!

It sounds like you use a lot of variety with your products (not 100% SU!) so I just thought I'd share.

Can't wait til next week for another card.

Really cute card. Wish I had your talent for original design--I'm just a good copier! As for the paper poll, my preference was not one of the choices. I would definitely choose double sided, but with a mix of patterns and solid colors on the reverse side. A little of both worlds, you know? Thanks for your fun blog. Have fun in Bermuda!

I totally agree with you, having a coordinating solid color on the other side of SU's patterned paper would be great!! As well, SU's patterned paper is usually so "elegant" like - kwim??!! It isn't usually "funky" like the squares you've used in this card. Love the card by the way! Sorry I missed the second live chat! Shucks!!

I just loved the card and how you tie your ribbon so perfectly. I have learned from your videos to cut the ends of the ribbon shorter than i have been and it really makes a difference. Cute card!

Love your blog! Just to let you & others know, Stampin' Up! DOES have paper with solid backs in their Designer Series Papers now. Not all packs, but several do since the beginning of Jan. HTH! I never realized how people liked that concept. Most SU! customers dislike it becuase they can always get the coordinating cardstock and why "waste" a pattern paper side on a solid?

becky - belledancr (SCS):

Hi Kristina
i totally agree with you about the DSP.
sometimes depending on your image or embillshments coordinating patterns can be too much but pair it with a coordinating solid and it works so well. i love the american crafts papers for this very reason.
thanks for MACM and Color Inspirations!

Interesting point about double sided paper. I personally am not liking the Berry Bliss DP b/c it has too many solid color on one side. Feeling a little gypped (I hate that word).
Sorry this is a non-card question (and I did check out the FAQ) but what blush are you wearing? I love the shade!!

Love the bright springy card this week! And thank you for doing a happy bday card, as March 24 was MY bday! lol

Also wanted to say that I love your blog! I got hooked on it when I came here to watch your video on how to tie a good knot. I've tried so many "tricks", but your video is what has helped me to finally succeed in doing knots! Every time I tie a knot now, I always hear that song in my head!

Keep up the great work, and enjoy your cruise!
