MACM - Easy Valentine's Day Card

010708-heart1.jpg

010708-heart2.jpg This was a special request from someone over at YouTube. She wanted easy Valentine's Day cards she could make for her daughter to give to the other children in her school class. This is what I came up with. :)

This card would be super easy to duplicate and make a ton of. Just work it like an assembly line... do one step at a time and then assemble. It can be done so much faster that way.

So, here's the video. BTW, I came to a decision on the voiceover thing. I'll do voiceovers if I need to explain something extensive, but if it's super easy (like today's card), I'll use captions. :)

Thanks for letting me know what you all think. I truly appreciate it.

Oh, and I forgot to note in the video that the heart stamp is from the older Stampin' Up! set Simply Said. Enjoy!

Sarah:

Good Monday Morning! (My new favorite day each week ... thanks to MACM!) Cute card. Absolutely LOVED the music. (Was it from a movie soundtrack?) Loved it. Thanks for sharing with us!

Kristina says: The song might be from a soundtrack, but if it is I'm not sure which one. :) I just found the song on iTunes. It was on a jewelry commercial not long ago (see it here). I've heard you can also get it for free at adiamondisforever.com, but I don't think it's still there. It'd be worth it to check and see, though. :)

Very cute card. That stamp set is one of my favorites. I just used it last night!

Each Monday, my 3 1/2 year old daughter sits on my lap and we watch your MACM video. She thinks the hands are my hands! And she loves the music.

Have a great week.

Totally cute - just like you! Connor was watching the video and when you were cutting out the heart, he said, "Mom, I WANT that heart." I'm not sure what was with THAT heart, but he wanted it. We'll have to cut out some hearts today.

Have a great week!

I'm new here too and really enjoying it. I love the real time - it was so much easier to see how you tie the ribbon.

Altho, it was a shock to see that you don't work as fast as "usual."......*L*

Thx for the compromise on the voiceover.

I have a question for you--is it easier to tie the uber-awesome "kwerner knots" (thats what I call em hehe) with the wide grosgrain as opposed to the thinner grosgrain? thanx.

Kristina says: Ya know, I think it is easier with wider ribbon. At least, I think so. :)

Courtney:

First I really enjoy Monday mornings now. Also thanks for the cutting tip about moving the paper not the scissors. I needed that tip badly! :)

Question: I purchased All in The Family during promotion but am having a hard time creating cute and fast cards. Would you share one sometime using that set, please!

2nd Question: In the new catalog which ds paper would you use for the bottom of a scrapbook page to look like grass?

Thanks in advance!

Kristina says: That's a great idea about using All in the Family. I'll have to remember that. As for the grass, I love the little green dots in Spring Break. That would make awesome grass. :)

my 3 girls and i thank you for this card, they've all decided to make it for their classmates for heart day. they'll each pick their own color to make it their own, and i'm sure glitter will be making a show somewhere!

Leigh:

I love the simplicity of the card and the bow.

Question - Do you need to worry about mailing the card with such a big bow? Do you need additional postage?

Thanks! Love MACM!!

Leigh

Kristina says: Actually, you can't mail 3x3 cards because they're too small. But on a larger card, this ribbon in a knot might be a problem. If you're wondering about it, I would suggest taking the card in an envelope to the post office and asking about it. Sorry I couldn't help more! :)

ok i would love to order some stampin up, but i dont know anyone around me. Can i order some from u?

Kristina says: Unfortunately, I'm no longer a demonstrator. You can find a demonstrator near you by going to stampinup.com and clicking on Find a Demonstrator. Or you can call 1-800-STAMP-UP. Hope that helps!

Yeah -- it is MACM!! Love the card -- pretty and simple. Started Valentines with my 4 year old this week -- this year we will NOT wait until the last minute! I think we will try this one -- like the yellow pp with the pom cdstk.

Very cute, simple card. I love it. However, I have to say, I have given up on making valentines for the kids classes. They are now in 2nd and 4th grade, and the other kids still just crumple up or throw away the valentines. Most of the parents never even get to see them- so it winds up being a huge wast of time, effort, and money. I do nice valentine cards with the kids for their teachers instead, and just give the store-bought out to the class. We do still do little projects like pencil toppers, and sour cream containers with candy, though.

P.S. Simply Said is still in the catalog-pg 49 ;)

K - I think the captions worked just fine today. I also loved seeing you tie the knot again in real time. Though typically I do enjoy your sped up versions. I think they keep it fresh. Keep up the fantastic work. The card is great!! Thanks for sharing your world with us and for your tips and inspirations.

Hi Kristina (and Sarah, commenter #1) -- the song used in today's video is called "Falling in Love in a Coffee Shop" by Landon Pigg and it is available on iTunes. Now it has a name instead of "that jewelry commercial song." :)

Obviously I didn't watch the video before I commented with the song name & artist -- oops. Of COURSE Kristina had it on there. But at least you all know for sure that it's available for purchase on iTunes. Sorry for feeling need to comment twice too! lol

Thanks for a cute-as-a-button MACM!

I don't see any reason that this card wouldn't be just as adorable made at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. I'm all about simple and clean and this card certainly fits the bill!

Thanks for sharing, Kristina!

Oooh, you take requests? LOL I'd love to see what sort of creative masterpiece(s) you could whip up with SU's new Always stamp set.
I became a demo around the same time as you did and have almost completely built my business around your designs. (I absolutely give you credit and even some of my Stamp Club girls now link you as one of their favorite sites on their blogs.) Anyway, the new Always set is my first new catty indulgence and I know you'd do it well. Heck, if you'd do a handful of projects using that set or another on my wish list, I'd be more than happy to order the set for you to keep and send it to you as a CDO. Seriously! It's a great investment for me. I LOVE your style and your projects translate so well into workshop/class projects! Thanks for sharing the fruit of your crative labors with us!

Kymm Kent:

Thanks for the MACM. I totally get online to watch it. I thought you could have used the little gold heart on the inside bottom right corner.

Also thanks for the top 5 tools.

When you decide to make a card on Monday. Do you decide the stamp set first, the paper first or how do you go about decided what embellishments. I find I get overwhelmed with so many choices or ideas that I can't make up my mind what stamp with what color with what embellishments that I tend to procrastinate and not get things made unless I'm copying someone else's lovely card.

hi kristina,
i love MACM :) do you have any suggestions on how to cut the length of the ribbon? i find i'm always cutting it too long and it would be wasteful. i was trying to see how you were cutting it in your video but it was a little bit too high up. thank you. :D

Kristina says: I just wrap the ribbon around the card, judge how much I need to tie it, and then cut it from the spool. It's different for everyone, but I've learned how much I need to tie the knot.
