Accents & Elements

013008-sograteful1.jpg

013008-sograteful2.jpg So, I think Accents & Elements is one of the more underrated items in the entire Stampin' Up! catalog... I just can't get enough of them! And as a designer, these tins full of various images are super fun to create. I think the girls I work with would agree. :)

Anyway, I broke out one of the new A&E kits and made a card with it. Super fast and super easy. And can I just say that I love LOVE the name tag image!

----------------

I've had a few questions recently about my craft area... Um, it's a mess. I tend to work in chaos. In fact, a lot of the time, I just create with and use whatever is out on my desk. I have a lot of unfinished things, but I also go back and re-use elements that were never adhered to the finished projects. I sort of find it a challenge to use already pre-cut card stock.

"Hmm... What can I do with this long strip of red card stock?"

It's like playing a game, ya know?

We have these Stampin' Days at work that are organized by the HR department and the girls who design projects for different events. Everyone in the entire company gets to make a couple cards and everything is pre-cut and ready to just be put together. It's really fun! I love seeing all the new hires starting out to stamp. So fun!

So the cards are pre-designed, but for the life of me I just can't make the card that's already prepared! I have to shake things up a bit. It's that challenge thing! I'm limited to only the things that were provided, and the tools are limited to usually just scissors and adhesive. Sometimes there's a punch, but not always.

I'm not the only one who makes a different card, too. A lot of the art department will make one of the pre-designed cards, and then one that's their own creation. I LOVE seeing what everyone makes!

How can you do this, too? Some of you out there are Stampin' Up! demonstrators and you've likely more than once come home with pre-cut scraps and leftovers from workshops and stamp camps. Break those pieces out and see what else you can make! It's a challenge, but it's so fun!

What a fabulous card. Great way to use the A & E's. I have never bought any. You have just enabled me. It sounds like a great job to have. We all love you out here. Thanks for sharing so much.

What a great card - I loved how you used the Name Sticker to write a note!

& what a fabulous idea to use leftovers scraps or pieces from other workshops or cards.

Thanks for sharing!

Ok, Kristina, you sold me. I didn't even know we (SU) carried this A$E set, that is how little I use these. I own a couple of older tins, but no new ones. This set will be on my next order. :)

Great card.

Lol, I have the same problem with pre-designed cards! I always want to make mine unique or just slightly different. =) Anyway, nice card! Thanks for sharing.

Another great card. If I keep visiting here, I'm going to have to find a Stampin' Up demonstrator in my area! I love using little precut pieces, but usually they are leftovers in my scrap bucket.

I am constantly amazed by my own customers. The variety of looks that is possible with just a few pieces and a stamp set never ends. I think one of the things that I enjoy most about being a demonstrator is being able to watch people take my sample card as inspiration and use their own creativity to produce their masterpiece.

I always save my scraps (thus my craft room looks like a tornado hit it) and I use them too! You never know when you are going to need that little something.

Thanks!

Firstly, I LOVE those colours you used there.

Secondly, thanks for saying you work amongst chaos. Although I crave having an organized craft area, I don't think it'll happen ... maybe next new year's resolution I'll try again. LOL.

Too funny about having to make the card different. I often do this when I go to stamp camps or to a SU party (but only when I know the hostess well!) I will angle the image, or flip or stagger the mat -- fun to see how you can slightly change something and it creates a new look.

Love the card -- I will have to check our the Accents and Elements -- not sure what they are.

My upline holds monthly Make-N-Takes at her place and whenever I attend, I seem to change things up a bit on her pre-designed cards. Even if it's just turning the fold of the card, I make it my own. My nickname at her MNTs = "The Rebel"! LOL
Thanks for sharing your awesome work!

I have to say that as a new demo my favourite part of doing workshops is watching people take the card i've given them and creating a completely different card.
I had one workshop the other day where we used the solids from bud basics to 'colour in' the outlines from the basic outline wheel, it was a really simple sketch and I gave them extra vanilla cardstock for wheeling with so they could get their favourite part of the wheel on the card, and a few of them had the idea of cutting out the spare flowers and gluing them in the corners or putting them on the inside, they looked fantastic and the idea had never occured to me.

I love these colors together--very nice card! Now, I used some scraps for my card for today's Splitcoast challenge and it was not so cute...some scrap projects turn out better than others :-)

one thing that i love about your blog is that you highlight things that i can't possibly know about without examining the catalog with a fine-tooth comb! i really like this, and think that the number of sheets it comes with makes it an excellent choice for a stamp camp! thanks for shedding light on this product. i can't wait for convention and the unveiling of the new catalog, since it is my hope that there will be a similiar attempt to bring to our attention some items we wouldn't normally be aware of.

It is AMAZING how much stuff we can accumulate on our desks yet still be able to function.... that's when you stop and stare because you know you just had it here somewhere....

I have a box full of scrap stock and will often start my projects off of random scraps of paper. At make & take parties, I was always "the rebel" who wouldn't follow the sample. (Guess it is the former graphic designer in me...) LIKE USUAL, CUTE CARD.

Oh Kristina...I'm so happy to hear that I am not the only one who gets those cut up scraps and used them to make something else...I too see it as a little game or challenge and I normally love what I come up with...of course, the new project normally builds other scraps to use so it's a never ending game.

I absolutely love your style...thank you for all the inspiration and ideas you have given to so many!!!

Peace & Blessings,
Laura

How funny!! I was just talking to my SU demo the other day about whether I could offer our group a challenge where I bring supplies for everyone..the exact same things..and anyone who wants to takes home a package and makes a card. I can't wait to see what we all come up with -- I'm sure it will all be so different even though we start out with the same supplies...just like you and the art department!!

Thanks for sharing this great card!! I love the color combo!!

What an enabler you are!!!! lol First I decided I need the polka dot background stamp because I like the card you used it on. Now I'm thinking about Forever in My Heart, and now the Accents kit.

My demo loves you! lol
Have a great weekend.

Miss K.
You are my newest obsession! I adore your blog!!!! Your energy and enthusiasm are inspiring! I love that you can't "color in lines" when you make a card. I always have to change something from the original example even if it is my own work. Thanks for your inspiration!

Thanks for making me take a look at Accents & Elements... I belong to a Hostess Club that orders bi-monthly and I am always looking for something other than a stamp set to order. Please keep your "overlooked" items coming! :)

Madeleine:

When I first started stamping... (actually I went to a party hosted by my friend and I told her I will not get into a new hobby, and 20 months and 75 stamp sets later, I'd say I'm hooked)... I wanted to make everything exactly like the sample, and now I branch off and change it sometimes a little and sometimes more.
I like to look at the idea book, magazines, your website, and even my baby's clothes for ideas. Best though is getting together with friends and exchanging ideas and new ways of looking at stamp sets. Like the Sale-A-Bration ones. When I first saw them I thought ok.... but we made some cards with them yesterday....wow! Thanks for sharing your cards. I love to look at them, and then look in my closet(I don't have a dedicated stamping area) and use what I have to make something similar or sometimes different!

I completely agree with you about A&E. They are the perfect size and are often inspiration pieces alone! Plus, when you're done, you have a cute tin to decorate.

Wow, I'm not a stamper - I just don't have the room or time, but you're still my favorite blog! You seemed like you were having a crummy day when you made that last video - I hope that sinus infection has kicked the bucket for good! Oh, and happy Groundhog Day in 1 hour! This last card of yours is lovely, but I prefer fewer patterns; just my style. You are truly gifted!
