MACM - Colorful Thanks

123107-thanks2.jpg

123107-thanks.jpg Hi everyone! This week's Make a Card Monday uses the same Imaginisce patterned paper I used in my last video. I just couldn't put it down! I love it!

Anyhow, I'm sitting here in the dark because all the lightbulbs in my craft room went out last night! Ahh! I'm waiting until it's a bit lighter in the day so I can climb up on a ladder to change the lightbulbs. (Vaulted ceilings can be VERY inconvenient, you know). Good thing I don't have to look at the keyboard while I'm typing! lol

So, I'll just keep rambling on while I wait for the video to upload to YouTube...

I tried something new with this video. One of my subscribers over at YouTube (thanks ninajeanette2!) suggested I still have audio commentary. So in this video, I tried voiceovers. I felt like I was doing commentary on a DVD! :) Hopefully it makes it a bit easier to watch. Leave a comment, please, and tell me if you like it better than the text commentary.

Thanks! And on to the video...

Watch in high quality here (click on "watch in high quality" below the video).

Kristina,
I can't get enough of your videos. They are the perfect beginning for the week. It's something I look forward to every Monday. I enjoy the new voice-over but it cuts into your wonderful choice of music...
All the best for the New Year and keep those videos coming!

debberdoo:

Kristina,
Either way on the commentaries. Sometimes just your few written words can be sooo funny! The way the videos run, in fast motion and the words at the bottom, it almost looks like one of those old fashioned movies! There's something kind of charming about that! But, do whatever suits you best.

I LOVE the stamping and embossing on the ribbon idea! I'm going to try that today!

Heaven help us all if you happen to miss a Monday! I wake up and go straight to my computer to see what you have for us! You ROCK girl!
Happy New Year!

not that i didn't enjoy this video, but I actually prefer the typed commentary. it seems more wry when you are having 'technical difficulties'. i think voice over would be great for tutorials. i have to say that i like that you didn't try and get the stray crumbs of embossing powder off, it was a fantastic look in the end. thanks for a year of great blogging, and here's to a happy new one!

Hey! I love your videos and I can't decide if I like the stamping or the music more! Where do you find such diverse and sometimes obscure music?!? I recognized this particular track from So You Think You Can Dance last year. Where else do you find such cool tunes?

Cute as usual...hmmm, not sure on the commentaries. I agree with some posters above who like the little typed comments, too. Maybe mix it up..we'll never know what we are getting? And I most definitely agree with the poster above who said "don't mess with the music!" Happy New Year to ya!

I want be of much help because I like both version. With the writing one I can shout out the sounds if my little girl is sleeping and having all the informations. With the "talking" one, you are giving a lot of informations and I was surprise that I was able to follow everything in English. I don't know how you make it but I think that a perfect match would be to have the "technical stuff" writen like measurement and the commentary "voicy".

Happy new year! Thanks so much for doing all that. I'm enjoying visiting your site :)

December 31, 2007 @ 10:56 AM

Wow, I love the video and the card! I do think the commentary adds alot. Those dots on the ribbon are a great idea, I will have to give that a try for sure.

Love it! Bet I'm in the minority with liking the text commentary. I've been enjoying your music selections, and like following along more like a music video than a tutorial. I think it's a unique format that sets you apart from the rest of the video tutorials out there. You're unique -- stay like that.

I really liked that you started including a video introduction at the beginning. Nice to have a face and voice to go with the rest. You're a talent -- thanks for sharing. Don't stop when you get discovered, get your own show and become famous!

Thanks for another great video. I like the typed commentary, but I suppose the vocal commentary is more helpful to a beginner who doesn't want to watch and read at the same time. There's something about the typed little notes that humor me. Have a happy new year!

December 31, 2007 @ 1:59 PM

I like the written comments MUCH better! This cuts into the music, which I always love, your voice fades in and out and I miss a lot of it, plus we can see what you're talking about anyway.

This is not a tutorial. I vote to go back to what you were doing so successfully.

Beautiful card. Happy New Year!

I like the voiceover, but I could get over it if it was typed, too. :-)

I love Make a Card Monday!

I was wondering what it is you use when you're using embossing powders... what is the folded black piece you have under your work to catch the excess? Is it just a piece of cardstock???

48

GET OUT!! You are a genius!! Embossing on ribbon!! ACK! I can't stand it! I am SO doing this with my club this month. Super cute hair, too. ;) I don't really have a preference on the talking vs. written commentary. I just love MACM so much it doesn't matter what you do. I'll still worship you. Happy new year!!

Carol:

Well I see we are pretty much split over our preferences. I like the voice-over - it's more personal and as one commented earlier, the written text often distracts me from what you're doing. Lending your voice holds my undivided attention and I remember things much easier. I'd be happy with any video you make though - they're all great and I'm so thankful you do them for us! I love this card and that paper as much as you do! BTW, I love your hairstyle - it's very sassy:)
TFS and have a very Happy New Year!!

as always, a very cheery card with fun, unexpected, creative elements! i like the typed commentary better, because i like the humor you inject that way, and i would guess that doing voiceovers is more work! you already give so much that my vote is whatever's easier! these are a fun highlight to each week for me...thanks for sharing!

I love your videos - I kind of missed the song lyrics on this one - understandable since you were narrating - either way, as long as you share more videos with us...thanks!

I just found your blog from SCS someone had posted about you on a thread. You quickly moved to a spot in my favorites folder. I love your cards. And I love your typed commentary too. As the others said your humor comes out better that way. Either way you ROCK!

Jane:

I love the new voice over. The music is actually distracting so my vote is for you to 'speak' of us through your videos. I think you have a natural teaching capability so keep it up! I am sorry to hear you are sick, about 80% of the bloggers I read are sick (me too!) Here's to a healthy new year and a Happy one too.

December 31, 2007 @ 7:11 PM

Hi Kristina. I love the video, but then I love them all, so Im not much help. I didnt think I would love the voice over as much, but you can say more when you are talking rather than texting. I am going to be using this card as inspiration... I've stamped on ribbon before, but never thought to emboss it. Very cool.

Great card! I think I like the voice over better, reason is sometimes I miss the text you type because I'm watching the card, so then I have to try to rewind it, which doesn't always work. However, do what ever is easiest or which you like best!
Could you sometime talk about how you come up with these designs? Were you just born with this great talent? Do you have to work at it? Is it from school? Plus what kind of school/classes did you have to take to get a job as a designer at SU!?
Thanks so much!

Wonderful card, as always! That's a difficult question, At first I thought that the voice-over was really really good, but I actually like the chram of the text comments. The text and music combo is sort of your signum already! We get to hear your lovely voice in the very beginning, where you actually could make a hint or a comment of something particular in the vidoe we are about to see. Anyhow, I will be very happy whatever you decide to do. It's not like you are gonna loosa any viewers ... Happy New Year to you!

Sarah:

I like the MACM tutorials either way. Regardless of reading typed words or hearing your voice, you still make us smile (or laught to ourselves) and inspire us all to be better paper crafters. (Great tip on writing out the words to center it better... I struggle with that one.)

Happy New Year to you! Wishing you all the best in 2008!

Love the voiceover. When you type in the words I usually miss something and have to review the video. Some of these questions I see posted I also have, will you be posting your respnse somewhere? I look forward to MACM every week, keep them coming.

I love the video w/ commentary! It's perfect. I loved your comments about struggling w/ the ribbon, because just looking at your card I wouldn't think that at all. The card is great too. The alphabet is really cool.

Nancy:

Super card!

I like the voiceover because you seem to have given more detail about the process of chosing your materials and what may go wrong (so that we know that this can happen to the pros as well...)

I like the typed comments because, like someone said, they give it the feeling of an old newsreel, and your comments, when not purely informative, are often quite amusing.

I'll keep watching regardless!

LOVE the voice-over. I enjoy hearing your comments about your creative process...which is a lot like mine so how come my cards don't look like yours in the end!?! :)

I have a hint for you though. Try putting the embossing powder in those Glad/Ziplock square containers instead of keeping in the jar. I use a plastic spoon which I keep in each container to sprinkle on the EP then it falls right back into the container. No fuss no muss!

Have a great new year!! And thanks for allowing all of us to peer over your shoulder every week!!

I love your video's..the voice over is great..but I am a bit hard of hearing..and I could not understand some of the words..maybe text and voice over? Would that be really hard to do?
Also..would it be possible to list the recipe for the card? I would love to know the name of the stamp and paper you are using. I bet I am asking too much...but I would love to see that.

I like the typed better. I usually watch your video when my kids are watching some random tv show, and I can't hear what you are saying. Also my husband doesn't need to know that I'm actually watching someone making a card, he just thinks I'm listening to some awesome music. :)

I didn't mind the typed messages but now that I have watched this video I LOVE the talking. It is much more helpful to know what you are thinking. Great job!
