Glitter on Acetate

This card came about because I was wondering what glitter would look like on acetate (transparency sheets). Hmm, I thought, will a heat tool melt the plastic? My preferred method of using glue is with Heat & Stick powder (Stampin' Up!), so a heat tool would have to be used. Especially since I wanted to stamp the image that would be glittered.
Well, it works! The acetate does not melt as long as you don't heat it too long.
For those who don't know how Heat & Stick powder works, you stamp your image in either craft ink or VersaMark, then sprinkle on the Heat & Stick powder, shake off excess powder, and then heat it with a heat tool until the powder melts (but not any longer than that!). Make sure you don't heat it too long, or it will lose it's tackiness that you'll need for the glitter. Then you'll sprinkle your glitter on, shake off the excess, and heat set it one more time. Voila! Glitter!
The other thing I did on this card, was I pulled out the white stitched in the Purely Pomegranate double stitched ribbon. It left behind a faint pierced pattern which I think is so cool!

Oh my goodness! This is so pretty! Love it! thanks for testing it out!! Can't wait to give this a go soon!
Oh, this is just beautiful yet so simple! Love it! Love your blog, always so inspiring!
YES! I also want to slow down to a crawl when I get a tailgater! The faster you go, the closer they tailgate, so I slow down until they pass. Where do people learn to drive?
Anyway, this is such a neat little card and I never would have thought to remove the white thread from the ribbon! you are so clever with your ideas! Love that acetate snowflake! TFS!
What a cute card and what an awesome idea with the ribbon!
Super gorgeous card!!!
What a great card. Your designs are amazing. Thank you for sharing!
Pretty card!
I have learned lots from your videos and would love it if you would do a couple of videos on embossing - dry embossing and heat embossing. Also uses of acetate and vellum interest me too. I'm still pretty new at this stamping thing and I love all of your stuff on your site!
Well aren't you just a clever girl?! I never would have thought to pull the stitching out of my ribbon!! Love it! And the glitter on the snowflake turned out sooo pretty!
Where did you find that snowflake?
Great idea on the ribbon ... love the sparkle on that acetate ... beautiful card.
Darn it Kristina! I have been telling myself that I don't need that set for months now. Months I tell you! And then there you go and make something amazing with it. Crap. I'm done for. Have a great week!
Love, Emily
Love this card!
I have been embossing on acetate -- one thing that I noted is that if you use the kind made for laser printers, it is designed to hold up to high heat, so it works pretty well. I think that not all acetate is the same (some is pretty thin) so I would encourage folks to use the kind for laser printers if you want to consider heating it! (and especially if you are going out to the store and buying a big ol' package of it!
I love your experiment. I am going to have to try it myself.
Hello, I absolutely love, love your blog, your videos are amazing. Please Please can you do one using the Heat and Stick Powder as I'm in the UK and Stampin Up is going LIVE on the 15th November and I don't know what this is for. kind regards, jenny xx

Happy Stamping, Ann
Love it!!!!
As far as tailgaters....sometimes I want to slam on my brakes! So you stamped the snowflake and then cut it out, after using versa mark, heat&stick and glitter, or did you stamp then cut it out and then use the other stuff? This is just beautiful!
Clean and simple--love it.
thank you for sharing i have been wondering about the exact same thing however not had the chance to give it a go but i will soon.... now that i know it will work ....
cheers
sandie
Beautiful Kristina...love your clean style.
No, you're not alone. Except, I actually do it! I drive a stick so I downshift and that usually sends them the signal to get off my tail!! :o) Love that glittery snowflake. I'll have to put Heat & Stick on my list with lots of glitter.
A little trick - switch on your lights for just a second - they think it's your BRAKE lights! Hahahaha! LOVED the card -Did you put it on with pop-dots??
Very cool, love that ribbon trick - genius!
I wonder how it would looked if you embossed with glue and irredescent powder but now heat is applied. (I don't have a heatgun yet!)
Very cute! You come up with the cutest ideas!
Holy Cow! What great ideas! Love the snowflake on acetate - gotta try it. And who would have thought about pulling out the white in the ribbon? Well, that's why we come to YOUR BLOG! Awesome!!!
Wow, I love this card!
How cool! You have the best ideas! I just tried out your origami box tutorial and was really happy with the results. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Question for ya. I just tried this out using the Seasonal Whimsy set, when I used the heat n stick, everything was good, when I added the glitter, I wasn't able to get it off of the other areas of the acetate. It stuck to everything. I love the way this looks, your cards are amazing.
Any hints?
Love, love, LOVE these ideas! I am SOOO using this idea for a snowflake card of my own, plus the same technique using a baby footprint stamp on a baby card. Also LOVE the idea of pulling out the white stitching. I've been bummed out about wanting to match colors but the styling of the stitched ribbon not suiting my card. Thanks for the inspiration!
Could you do a video about that
I tried to use that before but was so frustated
because I used the embossing boody
but then the acetate is all white, but if I dont use
we have this embossing powder everywhere.
I gave up
i love the card! could you maybe tell me the measurements and on all future cards that you make? thank you :)
Wow, Kristina. Your website is one of my favorites that I check every day and all your projects are beautiful.
I have one question: What is your set up to take your pictures? Or what kind of equipment have you got? No matter how hard I try, I can't get all of my card to look as sharp as this... not even remotely close! I just acquired a used Rebel XT thinking it might solve my problem, but I guess I don't know how to use it properly.
Anyways, thank you for your blog. I love it!
CC
Wow . . . This is fanastic. Can't wait to try it.
HOLY SMOLLY, KRISTINA !!! This is absolutely gorgeous !!! I can hardly wait to try it myself....I just bought this stamp set too !! LOVE IT :)
Have a great day and thanks again for your help this week....you're the best !!
Corinne
Love it! Love your blog, always so inspiring!!!
I put my hazards on when someone is tailgating...the car or truck will back of every time!
I love the card and thanks for the tip about pulling the stitching out of the ribbon...cool look.
Kristina, this is gorgeous!
When someone tailgates me, I wash my windows. For some reason they always back off because they hate getting the overspray on their car. I learned that trick from my brother. =D
What a gorgeous card! TFS!
I absolutely love all of your card creations. You are a genius and an inspiration.
I am realatively new to card making and am wondering how you put the ribbon around only the front of this card? Do you cut a slit so the ribbon slides through from the inside to the outside?
Sorry that this may sound like such a basic question but I always tend to shy away from making a card where the ribbon has to go "through" the bind of the card because I'm not sure how to make it look professional. The only thing I can think of is to use a zacto knife and cut a slit to slide the ribbon through.
Any ideas would be wonderful.
Thank you.
