Tutorial: Origami Box

origamibox-tutorial.jpg

Hi all! Some of you asked for a tutorial on how to make the origami box in my last entry. Here it is!

You will need:
- 11-1/2" x 11-1/2" piece of patterned paper (this will be the top of the box)
- 11" x 11" piece of patterned paper (the bottom of the box)
- 2" x 11" piece of card stock (scored at 1-1/4", 3-5/16", 7-1/2", and 9-5/8"
- 2 pieces of ribbon cut to approx. 12"
And on to the instructions:

Kristina,
This is great! I found your site a few days ago and am now hooked. I love your style and all of your work!! (I find myself checking it daily now for inspiration.)

I just made a few of these boxes, however my lids come all the way to the bottom of the bottom of the base. (Does that make sense?) How did you get your lids to fit so nicely so that you can see part of the pattern on the bottom of the box?

Thanks again for the tutorial!! :o)

WOW! Great tutorial. I love your editing to give us the measurements again. Thanks for taking the time to put that together and share. I am such the visual learner and probably wouldn't ever attempt this box if I hadn't "seen" it done.

Hi Kristina,
I'm hooked on your blog and love your ideas. Will definately try this one. I'd like to CASE one of your round cards too. they're SO COOL. Just wondering how the Coluzzle works though. Is it a tool to trace the circle or does it cut too?
Would love your advise.
thanks,
Mary

Okay, so I'm addicted too ... but probably for a different reason: I miss you! Love the tutorial videos because then I get to see you! (BTW, the children love them to for the same reason: they love to see pictures of their aunt Kristina.) Nice job!

Oh, did I tell you Eliza made a bunch of these for her 1st grade teachers' end-of-the-school-year-gifts?

Thank you so much for putting in the time to make this video tutorial. It's one thing to follow written directions, but another to see it done. I wouldn't have made one of these fabulous boxes if you didn't make the video. That would have been such a loss now that I have made one. I feel like I should send you payment for it. I will be making MANY more of these boxes. I LOVE your blog and visit daily (sometimes more hoping there is something new!)

Hi,

I thought this tutorial was brilliant! Do you know where i can get this paper from (im in the UK) I cant find any 11 1/2" square paper/card anywhere! Thanks x

Kristina says: Most scrapbook stores have 12x12 paper. That's what I used. I just cut it down to 11.5x11.5 because the paper I wanted had a corner bent. :) Hope that helps!

Hi Kristina!

How cool is this project? I am a 6th grade teacher and I think I will do those adorable origami boxes with them (of for them at the end of the year with a special message inside? I am not sure yet...). Anyway, thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to put a video on your blog: I am a visual person and it is hard for me to follow written instructions. Again, wow!

Kristina, I made one of those boxes and I had the same problem that someone else mentioned, my lid goes all the way down to the table and completely covers the bottom of the box! I love how on your boxes you can see a little bit of the bottom, so I was wondering how come mine go all the way down?
