Video Tutorial: Heidi Swapp Masks

102807-thanks-banner.jpg

102807-thanks.jpg By special request, today's post focuses on Heidi Swapp masks.

I'd never used one of these masks until ScrapFest last month when I took a Heidi Swapp techniques class. These masks are actually pretty cool. And for those of us who love paint and ink, it's awesome!

So far, I haven't been able to get a clean and crisp edge to the images, but I'm not sure that's the intent. Also, if you use an acrylic ink and make sure the edges are really stuck down, I bet you could get a nice edge.

Anyway, here's the tutorial. I really like how the card turned out. I think it might be one of my recent favorites. :)

BTW, thanks to everyone who has purchased my calendar design. I really think you'll like it.

Thanks - Kraft card stock and Chocolate Chip wide grosgrain ribbon: Stampin' Up!; mask and chipboard letters: Heidi Swapp; brads: American Crafts; ink: ColorBox.

Kristina, this is super cute!! I think I need to find me some of those fun thickers you keep using, not to mention the masks!! Thanks for sharing, Girly! Love the tutorial too. How long did it take that ink to dry on the card? And are you able to wipe the ink off the mask and re-use it, or is it a one-time-use kinda thing?

Kristina says:It didn't take too long at all--maybe 1 minute. It was a chalk ink so it dried super fast. :) You can wipe the ink off the mask right away, or just let it dry. I let mine dry because it doesn't hurt the mask. And you can definitely use it over and over again.

Kristina,

Thanks so much for doing this! This made a beautiful card, and made it clear on how to use the masks. Thanks again!

I wonder if you brayered over the mask before inking if it would create a crisper line definition... What do you think?

Thank you so much for posting this tutorial! I have a Heidi Swapp daisy mask sitting here on my desk waiting to be used. I have been too chicken to do anything with it!

Kristina, thanks so much for answering my questions about drying time, etc. I remembered one other thing I've meant to ask you several times before.....when you do ribbon like you did here, is it taped onto the back of the card or something? Since you couldn't just wrap it all the way around, I'm not sure how you did it here since the card opens up, like it does.

Kristina says: I usually cut a small slit in the fold and then thread the ribbon through. You can see the slit in the card in the top photo. The back side of the card is the kraft color. Hope that helps!

Okay, where do I get the masks?! Would my local scrapbook store carry them, or do I get them online? I just LOVE this card!!

Kristina says: I've seen them at my local craft store, and in online stores. I would suggest Twopeasinabucket (click here).

Darling! I just love your cards and especially your video tutorials. How timely, I just purchased one of those maskes a few weeks ago. I thought it was just a sticker when I bought it! I just started a blog a few days ago and posted my first creation today - Halloween boxes that I made from your Origami box tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
