April Stamp Club Project

I decided to make the mini pocket books for my monthly stamp club this month. I've given each person the option of the theme for their book: My Mom is the Best Because... or All About Me.

There are four journaling tags in the book so I've created a journaling prompts worksheet for them to use either before they come or while their making their books. Hopefully, that will enable them to go home with a completed book. See the worksheet here.

I made the mom book last night and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I just hope that it won't take too long to make. It wasn't too long when I made it, but I wasn't having to share supplies, ya know? I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes.

Also, how do all you SU! demonstrators feel about using retired product? There just isn't the right ribbon for this project unless I use the Flirty ribbon from the Winter Mini Catalog (which is no longer). I have enough for everyone to complete the project, but they will not be able to order it. Granted, nearly every one of them ordered it back during the sales period when it was available so they could go home and use it. But, how do you feel about that?

I used some of the Loves Me paper from the winter mini at my stamp camp the other day. So, I guess I think it is ok! I wish that paper and ribbon were available!! I just love them!!

WOW! Awesome project!! I recently added a "blogs I browse" to my blog and I have your blog listed, I hope this is ok...if not, email me and I can remove it. Love your blog (can't remember where I saw the link for it), but you are a creative gem! :) Wonderful project!

What a great project! I'm definitely going to borrow it. :)

I'm so conflicted about the retired stuff issue. When I host my monthly stamp club at my house (like tonight!) I DO bring out retired sets for people to use - but I make sure I know where something comparable is located in the current catalog. (IE: Bunches O' Bugs = Bugs And Kisses)

In fact, tonight I'm demoing a mini scrapbook on which I used a stamp from the Winter Mini Catalog, but gave an alterative from the Spring Mini.

Ribbon is much harder because there isn't another one like it.

I'm not much help. :)

That project turned out fantastic!!! I love how that ribbon goes with the paper.
I quite often use retired things like the ribbon in workshops. My upline gives me grief about it since I can't sell it, I won't make money, which means she won't make money...lol
Sometimes you just have to use it! In your case...it's perfect!

This is such a cute project. I get conflicted about using retired product too, but what I have realized is that my class members rarely order stuff at or during class. I give them a project supply list, and occasionally I'll get an order later than references something we used. If I do end up using a retired product, I usually tell them while I am explalining a project that...this ribbon is from the last mini catalog which is no longer available...don't you wish you would have ordered it while it was still around? Don't procrastinate this time...see the cute bla bla bla in the current catalog? Get it while it's still around!!! It doesn't seem to be a big issue, and I have to be realistic about always having and using every latest new thing. I think using retired product can teach them that if they see something they like, they better hurry up and order it while it is still available. Good luck!

What a cute book! I'm going to use your idea for a class this weekend. I notice that in your pictures it looks like you have stamped cardstock behind the flap on the first page, and I noticed it on the other books you did too. Is this an optional thing? I didn't notice it in the directions for the book. Does it make it more sturdy, or is it for looks? So far the main part of my book is put together, just wondering about that extra piece! Thank you for the inspiration!

Hi Steph! Yes, I did add that piece of card stock (4.25 x 3.5") in order to make it a bit more sturdy. You don't have to have that piece, but it does help it a bit. I would suggest adding that piece. Thanks for your comment! :)
